Homecoming
Pi Kapp was one of just six fraternities and sororities that
earned a pizza party and a suite at the new Goggin Ice Arena for a game of their
choice for their strong showing of 80% of the chapter in attendance at the
football game Homecoming weekend.
Congratulations Justin Harvey, Fraternity Man of the Month!
Justin Harvey (Xi #192) came to Miami as a Harrison Scholar and continues to actively contribute to the program by mentoring younger members of the program and tutoring other students in low to mid-level math courses.
In addition
to this Justin is an avid sports fan and has announced games for the Miami Redhawks
Fraternity Man of the Month Hockey for the past four years and recently has begun
broadcasting duties for the football team as well. The brothers of Pi Kappa Phi
feel that Justin lives what it means to be a Pi Kapp and an ideal member of the
Greek Community. He lives up to the highest ideals of scholarship, shows great
character in his involvement and lead by example in challenging those around him
to be better men. Congratulations Justin!
GAP Weekend
This weekend, over half of our active chapter traveled to Toledo,
OH to work on a service project.
The project was put on by our national outreach program
Push America. Push strives to raise awareness, build empathy, teamwork, and integrity
for and with people with disabilities. We arrived on Friday, meeting other Pi Kapp
chapters from elsewhere in the region at Camp Miakonda, a Boy Scout camp that also
hosts events and activities for people with muscular dystrophy. Throughout the weekend,
Pi Kapps paved a 300 yard path that lead to an archery course and a fort. Paving
the pathway makes it possible for people in wheelchairs to access the once sand-surrounded
site. Brother Kevin Michell said, “I probably wouldn’t have remembered another weekend
in Oxford, but I know I will never forget the weekend I touched the lives of many.”
- submitted by Ryan Troescher (Rho #216)
Ryan Troescher (Rho #216) will compete to win the hearts
of the Alpha Phi sisters and other campus women while raising money for Cardiac Awareness.
All funds raised from this event will benefit the Alpha Phi Foundation. The Alpha Phi
Foundation is a funding source for education in women’s cardiac health, leadership
development, and philanthropy.
Eighteen Pi Kapps from MiamiUniversity participated in this
weekend’s GAP Weekend at CampMiakonda.Along with brothers from the Univ. of Toledo,
Bowling Green Univ., Michigan
State Univ., Morehead State Univ., and the Univ. of Kentucky,
approximately 70 Pi Kapps finished a wheelchair
accessible path, cleared multiple camp sites, and created a large retaining
wall out of railroad ties. Thanks for
your service and thank you Camp Miakonda!
Pi Kapp wins second in the Alumni Association Homecoming decoration contest! Stephen Lightner (Sigma #219) officiates with style. (right)

Turkey Bowl Order Restored - 11/20/2005
The balance of the universe was restored today at Talawanda Middle School when the Old Guys in Yellow beat the Young Guys in Blue 26-6. After an early halfback pass for TD from Joe Ripberger to Brian Mahar, Old struck again in the third with another long TD reception by Mahar, the game's MVP.
Last year's MVP KRIS got into the endzone for a score in the 4th to bring Young within a touchdown, but the men in gold answered quickly with a touchdown pass to Mike Domek. The game was iced by a fumble return for TD by Adam Blott to finish the scoring.
In common Turkey Bowl subplots, Troeger Van Treese went down with a high ankle sprain, Mike Dwyer earned a dead-arm, and there were no fights although the usual bitching and angry finger pointing took place. Order was quickly restored by the game's single referee, Kevin McDonald.
All-in-all, brotherhood was had by all, and the day was capped off with a wonderful Thanksgiving feast cooked by Justin Jodrey, Ryan Cook, Josh Poling, among others.
Homecoming - 9/9/2005
Welcome back to alumni, family, and friends. Homecaming Game vs. Western Michigan is 2PM on Saturday. Be safe, have fun, and remember to donate to the Red Cross Katrina Relief Effort outside of Yager Stadium before the football game.
UIFI - 7/27/2005
BLOOMINGTON,IN - Vice Archon Eric Berkey represented Miami University and Pi Kappa Phi at the Epsilon Pi session of the North-American Interfraternity Conference's UIFI Leadership Summit at Indiana University.
In addition to meeting greek brothers and sisters from across the United States, Eric learned about the changes that are required in the Greek Community. According to NIC VP Peter Smithhisler, ten national fraternities will close their doors in ten years if liability insurance rates continue to rise.
Eric returns to Miami ready to lead with values based action and to work to strengthen our Greek Community back on campus. Pi Kappa Phi's are leaders by choice, and that's exactly what we intend to do: lead.

Turkey Bowl - 11/23/2003
The Old Guys have prevailed once again in a hard fought defensive battle. The final score was a close 12-7 with the guys in gold taking the win. We are happy to report only one Brother went to the hospital with a broken finger.
The Structure has been reformed to better reflect the current chapter dynamic. With the Advisory team to keep old ideas and maintain stability, the active chapter now enjoys greater freedom to make the committee structure serve the actives systemically. The revision signifficantly reduces chairs and forces greater involvement in actual committees. Member education, ritual, and recruitment chairs (after nominations by the chapter) are appointed by the Executive Counsel and affirmed by the chapter. The Social Chairs are now on a yearly basis, with staggering terms, to foster better sorority ties. Several chairs were combined to add more prominence to them (Greek Week/Athletics chair; Push and Philanthropy; Housing Corp and House Manager). Several other chairs were eliminated. The active chapter is excited about the approval of these bylaw changes and we welcome you to ask about them.
Committee Elections Sunday - 11/18/2003
The newly restructured committee chairs will be elected this upcoming Sunday, after the brotherhood feasts on the turkey cooked by the newly elected exec.

The programming this weekend was a sucess with a good showing from recent alumni. We hope that in the future as word spreads about the great time had at the golfing, barbeque, and formal dinner oppurtunities that we'll be able to meet more of the alumni in the future.
9th Place finish in Greek Week!!!!! - 10/3/2003
Our great strategery and hard work paid off in the last week as the chapter finished in a respectable 9th place. Some scoring events are very inaccurate, mainly because Greek Week Exec hired the Election Board of the State of Florida to run the points tabulation. Precipitous fall, ha! Some things don't change, like which alumni use the forum and which ones don't change the website ever (you know who you are Alex). The Greek Week placement is extra sweet because really only the top 7 chapters in Greek week really try and win anyway. That places us second on the 'we don't really care that much' list. Dave Burgas, Greek Week Chair, refused to comment by saying "our hard work has clearly helped the Greek Community relive the Glory Days." He then left and went to try and find the surplus ping pong balls that GW exec had given out earlier in the week.
This just in.. poll still the same - 9/30/2003
Different is good... but not always. It appears that the ' ^ ' is making a strong run at third place. Alex Santantonio was unavailabe to comment but was overheard saying "Long live the poll," as well as "Version 2.0 will be out soon." Gene Dubick noted that our website had been recognized on Miam's campus and Pi Kappa Phi fratenity as an explemplary website, and he added "Why change horses in midstream??? Our poll has been identical for almost two years now, I can't see the reason in changing now."
Homecoming Next Weekend - 9/28/2003
Final preparations are being made to welcome back the alumni to Mother Miami this upcoming weekend. Lazer tag, golfing, a lunch BBQ, a nice oppurtunity to dine with all at the Alexander House, and all the usual perks of the Uptown experience are all available to help you and possibly the family enjoy your return. The brotherhood is excited to welcome you back! Homecomning starts friday October 3rd and rolls on through Sunday. See you there.
